Visionary Voices Joins Forces with Disability Pride

ImageThe Visionary Voices project celebrated the 22nd Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act by participating in Disability Pride 2012 at The National Constitution Center.

Over 2000 people attended the July 28 event, which featured the unveiling of Justin Dart’s wheelchair as part of the NCC’s permanent collection. The day-long celebration also included a panel discussion with leaders of the disability movement moderated by Governor Ed Rendell, speakers, performers, information tables, and a joint photo exhibition by documentary photographers Tom Olin and Harvey Finkle. President and CEO of the NCC, David Eisner, announced that the NCC would make Disability Pride an annual celebration.

Visionary Voices staff interviewed leaders of the community including Cassie James Holdsworth, Nancy Salandra, Janine Bertram Kemp, Tom Olin, Harvey Finkel, Debbie Robinson, Eric Von Schmetterling, Joseph Rogers, and Steve Gold.  These interviews will be used by the NCC as part of its educational outreach.
